United Way Partnership

United Way serves a vital role in our communities, filling in the gaps between government services and smaller, niche nonprofits. The SCDOI is a proud supporter of the United Way of the Midlands. Each year, the Department participates in a week of giving to raise a lump sum to donate to the organization. Team members also have the opportunity to give a donation each paycheck to the organization. In 2020, the SCDOI started participating in service days alongside places and organizations that the United Way of the Midlands supports. We believe giving back through money, item donations and time is a great way to invest in our communities and make South Carolina stronger and more resilient.

If you have a volunteer opportunity for the SCDOI, please reach out to Katie Geer at 803-737-5913.

Read Across America Day

Pine Grove Elementary School March 2, 2020

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!" - Dr. Seuss

All over the country, libraries, schools and community centers hold special Read Across America events on March 2nd that foster reading in their communities and that celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss. This year, the SCDOI went to Pine Grove Elementary School and participated in their Read Across America Day. Thank you, Pine Grove Elementary, all the wonderful teachers, staff and especially the students that made us feel so welcomed and listened so intently!
