South Carolina Regulation 69.50 details the continuing education requirements for individuals qualified or licensed to act as insurance producers in this state.
The South Carolina Department of Insurance has contracted with Prometric to provide agent record keeping services for the South Carolina Continuing Education (CE) program. Prometric handles agent communications, credit banking and compliance calculation, in addition to reporting compliance to insurers and the Department.

- Resident producers subject to a CE requirement may comply by earning 24 credit hours in each two-year period ending May 1 in even-numbered years.
- Non-resident agents may comply by meeting the requirements of their home state.
- Resident and non-resident agents must pay an annual $7.50 CE fee. Agents will not be compliant unless the fee is paid for both years of a biennium.
- Grandfathering is available. A written letter must be mailed to the South Carolina Department of Insurance requesting the exemption from the continuing education requirement.

Producers may request a 60 day extension to July 1 for completing their CE requirements. A completed Continuing Education Extension form must be submitted to Prometric by hard copy, fax, or e-mail.
Hardship extensions beyond July 1 may be granted for good cause that includes, but not limited to, illness or catastrophic events beyond the control of the producer which prevent the producer from conducting normal work activities. Hardship extensions are granted only to agents who already have been granted the 60 day extension to July 1. Agents must provide documentation of the hardship. Complete the Hardship Extension Application Form and send it with documentation to the SC Department of Insurance.
