Insurance policies offered in South Carolina are to be readable and fair in relation to the coverages offered and must ensure prices charged for such coverages should be calculated in accordance with all state laws. Filings made with the Life, Accident and Health Division and the Property and Casualty Division are generally completed within 30 to 45 days, unless additional information is needed.

Database Searching Tips

If the assigned filing number is known, enter the number in the Filing Number field and click Search. No other information is required to retrieve the file.

If searching against the filer name, enter a partial amount of the company name in the Filer Name field and approximate dates in either the Date Approved/Closed or Received fields, click Search. Entering a date range helps to keep the retrieved data to a manageable list for reviewing.

A helpful tip is also listed beside each search criteria field of the filing database. The tip suggests entering exact or partial match criteria in the noted field.

There are a couple of options for retrieving copies of rate filings that have been approved and closed by the South Carolina Department of Insurance. Please note that there is a $50 plus tax fee per paper or electronic file copy. The fee covers the cost incurred by the Department.
To retrieve a copy of a rate filing, you can:

Schedule an appointment to come to the Department where the filings can be viewed at our public kiosk. Most people bring a USB drive with them to save any files that they need, instead of printing them.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 803-737-6113 or emailing centralfiles@doi.sc.gov.

Search the rate filings via our web site by visiting our Company Filing Database. When you find the rate filing you are interested in receiving, email the filing number for each of the requested files and your billing address to centralfiles@doi.sc.gov. Our staff will send the filings to you once they are retrieved.
